Whist collaborator Teddy Santis tweaked the design to today’s taste by reinventing the colour blocking in fresh ways. When Did New Balance 550 Come Out? The 550 was first released in 1989, following all the NBA strict colour regulations. Other Competitors featured marketable performance informed tech, this was a huge problem for New Balance, as it caused the 550 shoes to be forgotten by the world… Until 2020, Thanks to Teddy Santis, founder of Aimé Leon Dore. Randomly stumbling on the sneaker in an old NB Japan catalogue the shoe was given an injection of life rereleasing in various new colourways as well as the OG ones ultimately finding their true success becoming one of New Balances main line collections.
