History of New Balance

New Balance was founded in 1906 by William Riley. NB was inspired to create a product that offers the same kind of balance that his chickens had on their three-toed feet after watching them walk. Their first product featured flexible arch support with three support points.

Riley partnered with Aurthur Hall in 1934, helping him to grow the business. They sold the business to his daughter and her husband. They continued to sell orthopaedic footwear but then started to develop running shoes in the ‘60s, releasing the Trackstar, which was popular with runners. After this New Balance quickly became a leading brand in the running shoe community thanks to their development of innovative running shoe technologies.
